Your first practice session

Start rehearsing: Offbook reads your scene partners’ lines and listens for yours.

How practice works

Practice is a live rehearsal with an AI scene partner. Offbook plays every other character's lines out loud, then listens through your microphone while you deliver yours. When you finish a line, the scene moves on automatically, just like working with a real reader.

Start the scene

  1. Open your scene and allow microphone access if prompted.
  2. Press Spacebar (or click the start button) to begin.
  3. When it's your turn, the current line is highlighted. Speak it naturally.
  4. Offbook detects that you've said your line and cues the next one.

Controls to know

  • Spacebar: start, pause, or resume the scene (and restart it once you've finished).
  • Enter: jump to the next line manually.
  • Say "next line": advance hands-free if a line isn't being picked up.
  • Restart: run the scene again from the top.
Tip: Don't worry about being word-perfect at first. Line detection is forgiving by default, and you can tune how strict it is in practice settings.

Make it yours

Open Scene Controls (the sidebar) to adjust everything about the session: font size, playback speed, what's visible on screen, how lines are detected, even the accent color of the interface. The two guides to read next:
